AnyBODY Can Dress: Pear Body Types

So do you remember how we discussed that fast fashion tends to ignore most body types, only highlighting the hourglass that is the rarest body type? And last week we discussed the Apple Body Type, this week we will discuss the Pear Figure, which is at a staggering 20% of women. Crazy right?

Let’s talk about the opulent Pear Shaped body. Which is usually mistaken for the hourglass.

Key Points for the Pear Body Type

A pear-shaped body is usually quite curvaceous, due to the hips being the widest part of the body, making the hips the star. And with the hips being the main focal point of the body and the waist being well-defined, there are so many options for clothing that will sing the praises of this particular figure.

Dresses fitted at the waist, hips, and down give the eye something to follow.

If you’re going for a fitted bodysuit, adding something to the waist like a skirt, a belt, or an accessory gives creativity to the look. Unless you’re going for more of a catsuit, which we love those too!

Draped skirts, wrapped skirts, or ruched skirts also give beauty and flair to the body. They not only fit the figure in the right places but also snatch the waist.

V-neck or halter top dresses will always complement a curvier figure because they create balance in the round, giving shape for the eyes to follow.

Pleated skirts and/or pants add length and elegant texture to the body. Vertical lines honestly work with every body type. Don’t be afraid to wear beautifully box-pleated skirts or dresses; they will always flatter and add an interesting element to your look.

A panel or godet skirt fits at the waist and hips but gives a light flare before stopping mid-calf or below the knee.

Puckered, asymmetrical, tulip, and mermaid skirts will forever have my heart with this body type as they complement the hips, waist, and legs well.

It’s best to avoid tops that are oversized or have too much drape. If they do drape, it’s best if it ends at the natural waist with a form of gap between the top/blouse and bottoms of the outfit, such as a wide waistband or belt.

Being a pear shape, it’s important to make sure when choosing jackets that they cinch in at the waist and stop mid-hip. Longer is fine, but be mindful when you’re wearing a blazer or suit jacket that it doesn’t end right at the start of the hips; it can give the appearance of being boxy.

Crop tops don’t necessarily mean that the belly has to show, but a top ending at the natural waist or the start of a high-waisted bottom will snatch the waist and transition well to the hips.

Please don't be afraid to add patterns or lines, textures or certain colors to add an interesting element to your look. It's fashion and most importantly it is your style and your choice. Have fun with it and do what makes you feel comfortable and beautiful!
