Black Dandyism. You may ask, "What is Black Dandyism? What does it mean?" Let me explain.

Black Dandyism is a movement. It's a revolt against a society that is meant to stifle and smother individualism's creativity. It is resistance and self-expression. It pushes past societal limitations and norms that are thrown onto people based on their race and class.

Started by black men in the eighteenth century, Black Dandyism was and still is a blend of respectability and rebellion, as it challenges stereotypes that still negatively affect the black community today. Think Harlem Renaissance times ten.

In short, per Google, Dandyism "refers to a style or philosophy focused on personal appearance and elegance, particularly through clothing and grooming, often with an emphasis on refinement and self-expression. It can also encompass a broader attitude of meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of life, representing a form of individualistic rebellion or a celebration of aesthetic sensibilities."

As a fashion graduate with a sister who worked in Men's suiting, I was elated when I discovered that Black Dandyism was the theme for this year's Met Gala. I love a good suit, I love maximalism along with textures, accessories, jewelry, and colors, so you already know what type of time I was on.

Knowing that Dandyism can also be gender-fluid, I was all the more excited to see what our favorites were going to feed us. Let me tell y'all, I am fed, I am full, and I am happy. I went to bed proud of my people and how they showed up to the Met Gala and showed out.

Check out my favorite looks that took my breath away below!
